A Zuni Sunface symbol is inlaid on Danette Laate's
Turtle (or tortoise) carved from onyx. It represents balance in life: traditionally, turquoise (blue) stands for Father Sky, coral (red) stands for Mother Earth and mother-of-pearl shell (white) and jet (black) represent all the elements in balance. The Sunface is used as an offering or blessing from the artist in thanks for the medicine or spirit that it brings to us. Turquoise inlays adorn the lovely etched carapace as well as the reptile's eyes. The Sunface element is from turquoise, jet and coral. About 2 1/8" long, 1 1/8" wide and 1/2" tall.
